That would be me! I’m Lola. A gluten-free food lover, eater and creator. I dream of self cleaning Kitchen Aids and Gluten-free revolutions. I also happen to think that ricecakes are cool . Here’s a snippet from my revolutionary handbook: Cooking must always be accompanied by singing and/or dancing.  Baking on the other hand is a far more serious business that demands creative mess and complete concentration.

Enjoy my blog and recipes and don’t be shy, just say hi! 🙂

  1. Thanks for dropping by! You want to bake. I like to dance (which I should probably do more of considering the amount of baking I do!) Anyways two things in common already. Welcome aboard and let me know if you try any of the recipes and how they came out 🙂

  2. well…what’s your poison? muffins? cakes? cookies? do you wanna play it safe or go for something a little different? Email me with the kind of things you’re interested in baking. (My email’s under the little blue twitter bird on the right ahnd column of the home page )and I’ll send you the recipes.

  6. Hi Curious Baker, strange how your blog came up and I fell in love with your jamaican ginger cake instantly. I am a bit of a nomad just like you, 6 different countries the last 15 years. I am interested to get involved with more gluten free cakes (for health reasons) – I came across Harry Eastwood’s Red Velvet and Chocolate Heartache.I would like your opinion if you have tried any of her recipes there and if they were any good? Her recipes appear to be gluten free. Thanks a lot for your thoughts!

    • Hi Yoonsy, 6 countries? Looks like you’ve matched my score! 🙂 Welcome aboard the gluten free train! I haven’t tried any recipes from that book, but it’s wheat free and some of the recipez are gluten free as well and I already LOVE the styling of the food shots, plus I’m a huge fan of using veggies in baked goods, so I’m off to order it now and I’ll let you know what I think 🙂 Thanks for the tip!

  7. Thanks a lot, do share your thoughts and I will with mine. Confession, I went out and bought the book anyway yesterday, couldn’t resist it. So hope to try the recipes soon and will let you know. I am thinking of trying out the Rosewater Fairy cakes as my first project from the cakebook. Wish me luck!

  8. Aha it was all a test to see if I’d buy it! lol! Well, I have and so far, I have to say the chocolate recipes are really grabbing my attention, I’ll most likely bee drastically reducing the sugar content but there are certainly some interesting combos in there, still not sure if it’s a keeper yet but I’ll give the rosewater fairy cakes a go too then we can compare notes 😉 OH! Good Luck!

  9. ok i tried a recipe out of the book, Lemon Drops,as it turned out the recipe made only 4 regular cupcakes, I don’t see how it could have made 24 baby cupcakes to be honest according to the book. Taste wise though was in fact yummy, I think I will proceed to try out the light chocolate cake next, although i am more tempted to try your chocolate avocado cake first! have a good weekend ahead.:)

  10. so….. I’ve tried the rosewater fairy cakes and the strawberries and cream and I dunno, I just didn’t like the gummy texture, I’m not convinced so far, I’ll go for one more recipe and if it doesn’t wow me, I’ll be giving the book away 😦 Oh, try my chocolate avocado cake, it’s good! Have a nice weekend too 🙂

  11. I bought this book a while ago and read it cover to cover. I really enjoyed it and thought the writing was very funny, witty and original. As far as the recipes are concerned, I’ve only tried one and it was okay. I am not keen on using rice flour asI find it gives baked goods a very sandy grainy texture. However, I think I will get it down off the shelf and have another go. Some of it is just too weird and I struggle with the concept of chocolate and aubergines or indeed anything with turnips! Avocado and chocolate is not a flavour combination I would hold muuch hope for, but thinking about it, Ican see why it will work. Avocado will add moisture but, little flavour. So Curious Baker, I shall give it a go and write it up on my blog. All the best. Adriana

    • I know what you mean, but give it another go, believe it or not, avocado and chocolate really are a match made in heaven. Avocado has a neutral taste, so all it can do in the recipe is provide moisture, it doesn’t even add any colour. Try this and I’m sure it’ll change your mind.

Then regarding the book, it’s still growing on me, some of the combos as you quite rightly said, are just plain bizarre, but I’m intrigued enough to try, I’ve bookmarked some, dumped others, and…wel…it isn’t quite the cookbook we’ve all been waiting for, but it does have some interesting ideas, I’m going to post the ones I’ve tried at some point, then I’ll be checking your blog too, to see how the experimenting’s going! Happy Baking!
